| Cheongwon, located at the middle of Korean peninsular, is sharing boundary with Goesan and Boeun to the west, Cheonan of the South Chungcheong Province to the west, Daejeon and Yeonggi to the south with Geumgang River in between, and Jincheon to the north. The total area of Cheongwon is 814.38§´, which is corresponding to 10.95% of the gross area of the North Chungcheong Province (7,431.69§´). Within the total dimension, forestland occupies 462.73§´ (56.8%), farmland area 212.63§´ (26.1%) and the rest counts for 139.02§´ (17.1%).

It is the center of transportation network where Gyeongbu and Jungbu Expressway are crossing, and passengers both from Cheongju International Airport and Gyeongbu KTX Railroad are connected. Also, Cheongwon is linked to two Expressways (Gyeongbu Expressway, Jungbu Expressway) and one inland Expressway, providing easy access from any area such as the national capital territory, Yeongnam territory and Honam territory.
With its perfect infrastructure and business friendly environment, Cheongwon garners nationwide and worldwide recognition. As a result, last 2004, Cheongwon received president¡¯s commendation for the best business-friendly city in Korea. Cheongwon holds Osong Bio cluster, which is the only state-run Technopolis for the bio-industry initiated by the Korean government. It also operates Ochang IT Complex, the outpost of the 21st century's cutting-edge industries, where it is well equipped with manufacturing, residential, research, commercial districts and green zones in perfect harmony. As of December, 2007, the number of companies in Cheongwon was 7,524 and the employees numbered 54,873. In 2006 alone, total trade amount in Cheongwon recorded US$3,329 Million with US$1,472 Million in exports and US$1,857Million in imports.
Cheongwon has abundant tourist attractions including temples like Hyonamsa Temple, cultural heritages like Unbo House, and mountains like Gunyosan. Especially, Chojeong mineral water, which is so-called magical care water, has a reputation to be selected as one of the best three mineral water by world mineral water association. |
