Boeun County, located in the middle south of the North Chungcheong Province. The total land size of Boeun accounts for 584.26§´, which is corresponding to 7.9% of whole land size of North Chungcheong Province's 7,432.40§´. It consists of about 69.04%, or 403.4§´ of forestland, whereas the land for farming is only 19.67%, or 114.9§´, and others as 11.29%, or 65.96§´.

It is a typical basin located in between the steep ranges of Sobaek Mountain Range and Noryeong Mountain Range. Bocheongcheon (Stream), originating from the northwest region of the province, runs through Boeun town, the heart of the province. It finally merges into the main stream of Geumgang River at Hapgeum village, Cheongseong town, Okcheon County with forming a reverse S shape. The surrounding area of Bocheongcheon (Stream) is the richest grain district in the province.

Situated in inland mountainous areas, Boeun shows wide daily and yearly temperature ranges and considerable precipitation. The annual average temperature is 11.6 ¡É and the temperature range is highly variable the hottest being 35.5¡É in August and the coldest around -16.6¡É in January. Annual average precipitation amounts to 1,196.2mm. In the summer from June to September, Boeun receives more than half of the total annual precipitation, providing good conditions for farming and livestock raising.

In December, 2007, Boeun had 2,521 registered companies, which were employing 10,042 workers. Also, in 2006 alone, the total trade volume of Boeun stood at US$ 66Million with US$37Million in exports and US$29Million in imports.

Boeun is a time-honored place with a beautiful natural environment and cherished tradition and culture. The main cultural attractions can be found in Mt. Songnisan and Mt. Gubyeongsan, with 600 year-old pine trees surrounding Beopjusa Temple on Mt. Songnisan. The Alps of the Northern Chungcheong are also considered one of the most beautiful attractions in the province. As an agriculture-oriented town, Boeun is famous for the local specialties such as jujube, rice, apple and pear.
